Should Your Children Have a Nanny During Your Divorce?

Children often need extra support during their parents’ divorce. Because of the time that you’ll have to spend on divorce-related matters and setting up the new way of life, the time you have with your children might not be as much as you want. For this reason, some parents opt to hire a nanny for the kids when they’re going through a divorce. There are many benefits to doing this.

The nanny can give the children consistent care. If you and your ex both employ the same nanny, this adult can provide considerable assistance with ensuring the children are cared for and have a stable environment in which they can thrive.

Your children may turn to the nanny for help adjusting to the new arrangements. This person can be a trusted adult who they can talk to about how they feel. They can also turn to the nanny for help with homework and other similar things.

It’s imperative that you discuss the duties the nanny will have with your ex so you can communicate those clearly to the nanny. You should also provide the nanny with a clear schedule for the children, including when they will be at which home.

Ideally, you’ll be able to work with your ex to keep rules for the children consistent between homes. This can help the nanny to uphold the rules and it will help the children during the transition to living in two homes.

Another thing to remember is that you shouldn’t use the nanny as a messenger. Instead, communicate directly with your ex so that any issues are addressed appropriately.
